Found by gold prospectors in 1932 sitting cross-legged in a small cave on Pedro mountain. Brown and wrinkled, with a flattened head he was only 14 inches tall.

Scientists theorized that it was a pygmy mummy, probably American Indian. When it died, it was given a ceremonial burial.

Pedro Mountain Mummy
The mummy remains were X-rayed by the American Museum of Natural History and certified as genuine by the Anthropology Department at Harvard , experts of the era thought it to be 65-year-old person.

In 1950, Dr. Harry Shapiro, a biological anthropologist from the American Museum of Natural History  concluded that the X-rays showed that it was a deformed infant.

In 1979 pictures of the X-rays were given to Dr. George Gill, at the University of Wyoming. He concluded, the mummy was that of an infant or aborted fetus. He believed that the infant had been afflicted with anencephaly, an abnormality that would account for the adult proportions of its skeleton. Discoveries of mummified remains are not uncommon in Wyoming, which has an arid climate. anencephaly
